Dutch Broadway School

Creativity was on full display at Dutch Broadway School on May 20, as scholars from every grade level unveiled a delightful tea party–themed 3D sculpture art showcase. Now in its third year, the annual exhibit has become a highly anticipated tradition centered around a fun food theme.

Similar to most tea parties, the spread included everything from colorful macarons and cake pops to cupcakes, sandwiches, pies, cookies and cake slices. Each grade level was assigned a unique menu item to sculpt using Model Magic, a self-drying clay. Under the guidance of art teachers Ms. Greco and Ms. Cuba, the scholars brought their culinary-inspired visions to life during their art lessons. Sixth graders specifically worked on their intricate cake slices for the past few months, utilizing plaster and cardboard, along with traditional art supplies like Tempera Paint and Mod Podge. The scholars also used real birthday candles, cookie cutters and cake pop sticks, and topped cookie creations with baby powder to mirror powdered sugar. Families and students were invited to browse the art exhibit throughout the school day.

The Tea Party Art Showcase took place during Dutch Broadway’s Art Spirit Week, a celebration of art and creativity. Each day featured a unique dress-up theme, including Tea Party Tuesday and Tie Dye Thursday.
